Paths to testimony in Sostiene Pereira

Abstract

Given both the particular way the story is told, as a kind of evidence-testimony supported by the refrain "sostiene Pereira", and the presence of the subtitle "a testimony", thought must be given to the meaning that can be ascribed to the word "testimony" and to the act of testifying in this context of self-declared fiction. It would be useful to explore, on the one hand, the expository situation embodied in Sostiene Pereira and on the other, the writing situation in which Antonio Tabucchi chooses to place himself.
