Abstract

The novel Aracoeli opens with brief indications about the character, Aracoeli, mother of the narrator, Manuele. The narrator states that she was from Andalusia, that her surname was Muñoz Muñoz and that her baptismal name was Aracoeli. This opening, with its immediate link with the title, establishes the centrality of the narrator's mother to the subject matter of the novel. The reader is made curious to find out more about her.
