Community and Church: The Catholic Church and 'the problem' of Italian Immigrants in the United States and in Australia, with Special Reference to South Australia
Abstract
Mass migration of Italians to both the USA and Australia gave rise to what became known as 'the Italian problem'. When Italian migrants arrived in the new country they carried with them their own set of religious beliefs and customs that differed noticeably from those of the pre-existing Irish-dominated Catholic Church.
